Interviewer-"Where were you born?" Mr. Martinez, I was born here in Dallas in 1946. Intervewer-"Ok, and so you lived in Dallas all your life." Mr. Martinez-Born and rasied in Little Mexico and Cedar Springs and Cole Avenue. Interviewer-"And what is your education and background?" Mr. Martinez-I was attending Dallas Public Schools, Travis Elementary, Cumberline Hill, Spence Middle School, North Dallas High School, and went on to Southern Methodist University, attended my degree in Latin American Culture and History and Spanish, did some post-graduate work in SMU in Public Administration, and then obtained my Masters in Leadership/Education Leadership at Texas A&M Commerce in 2000. Interviewer-"Who were your parents?" My mom and dad were Armando Martinez, a waiter, all his life, worked in a lot restaurnts in the Dallas Mexican area. My mother's name is Maria {?] Martinez, was a homemaker, that raised myself and brother, my older brother, Dr. [?] Martinez. Interviewer-"OK, and even though I know your occupation, just for recording, what is your occupation?" Mr. Martinez, I am an educator, I've been a teacher, campus administrator, and a central officer with the Dallas Independant school district for the past 16 years and also I've been an adjunct professor in the school of education. Interviewer-Ok, and are you a part of any civil rights organizations, I know you are, but the tape." Mr. Martinez, I've been a long time member of The League of Latin American Citizens better known as LULAC. I've been involved with them since 1977. Presently, I'm the president of one of our local councilors, oldest councilors, LULAC councelor, so I've been very involved with LULAC on immigration issues, immigration reform, education issues, and general civil rights issues over the past 35 years. Interviewer-"I Should've asked you about your children and I didn't but I heard you say you have four children. Mr. Martinez-I have four sons, my oldest is about 38 years old, my youngest just turned 30, and I have five grandchildren. Interviewer-Ok, what about your wife?" Mr. Martinez-My wife is also very active in the community, her name is Beatrice Alba Martinez and, in fact, she is the district director for LULAC, for all of Northeast Texas and she is a realtor/broker, been a realtor for 25 years in Dallas and very very involved in the civil rights community.....
