Littleton: I used to always take that to heart. Every time something would come up. Who told you that? How did you know that money was there? How did you learn that? Am I the person that does not know? All y’all know and I’m in the dark? Well, we didn’t think your people cared. Stuff like that. That made me more determined to seek information so that I could bring that to Odessa and because of that it’s like well you know she thinks she knows everything. Follower? Not a follower. Drum major instinct, oh yeah, that’s me. When I was on the council, state of Texas came out with a program called Turn Around Texas and in Odessa, we called it Turn Around Odessa. Crack was real bad. The drug crack. What you do is you get the fire department, the police, and your elected officials and you would march on crack houses. We don’t want you in our neighborhoods. You have to go. Unfortunately, a lot of crack houses were in my district and I had to take a stand. Y’all are on the corners selling crack. You’re doing drive-by shootings. It’s not acceptable in Odessa. It’s not because some grandparents could be killed. Some kids. You got to go. Naturally, I took a big hit because of that, but I believed in that. When you believe in what you believe in, a lot of times you end up standing by yourself, walking alone. That’s what happens to me. I just have to trust in God and lean and depend on him, but as far as politics is concerned, whether I’m elected official or not, I’m going to still stand for African-Americans, for people, period.
