Zapata: What was the result of the Lozano case? Hernandez: Well, the final thing was that no charges were filed against the officers. If you Google the Lozano case, you will find a lot of things on it. I found a lot of things I did not even know about. I found letters that senators had written. State representatives that I did not know were even involved with this. I am thinking who go these guys to write these letters? It was Raul that was doing all this. He is the one with the contacts, but everything is in the internet. The whole case is there on who said what, the evidence. Everything is there. I think the last time that I read it. I read it once. They were let go. No charges were filed at all. It was really bad. We had pictures of the guy. He was beat up bad. They say he did it to himself. But that one, the Lozano case turned this city around. It went from like A to Z. Everything, you know, Hispanics started getting some respect and harassment slowed down. There is still a lot of it out there but it is not like it use to be because of all of the sacrifices. I remember fighting, a lot of my friends standing up. I remember the Border Patrol coming to the school this one time. They were going to take all the undocumented students. He is a commissioner right now, Armando. Armando Rodriguez- a two time commissioner- he did the walk out at the school. He was still a student. His brother- he was out at some university? Harvard? He was a brains guy. He would come in- I guess on his time off- he would come in and talk to us, to the Berets. We used to look up to him because he was at a big school, you know. His other brother- Jaime- he was like a three time councilman here too. He was very involved with Raul and the Brown Berets and all of that. So, there was a lot of good things that came out of Raul for Odessa. He planted a seed here- councilmen, commissioners, a new DA, just so many things that he did.
