0:30 I was born in Stockdale, Texas September 22nd 1931. My parents were Carmen Perales and Gabriel Garza. At the time, my father was working in the railroad in Stockdale and thats where they lived when I was born. They were natives of Floresdale, Texas which is thirty miles southeast of San Antonio 0:30 And there is pretty much where I grew up my parents were not highly educated my father I think only went to the third grade and my mother never went to school. She was the oldest of five daughters who theri parents pretty much lived in farm lands, they were sharecroppers and my father was a common laborer. 0:30 And they were married in Farmersville in Fort Worth and there is little interest in the story about that. My father was ten years older than my mother. And when he asked for my mother's hand in marriage, my grandfather consented on one condition 0:30 That they marry in a methodist church because my mother's family was methodist. My father's family was, of course, catholics. So, of course, my father consented 0:30 Where we were born, however, my father decided [?] all four siblings were babtized in a catholic church, but we grew up in a methodist church. So, I joke about the fact that 0:30 I my base is covered, I'm catholic, but that [?] Anyway, my mother died at a very young age, she was twenty-nine [?] Of course, she died after giving birth to my youngest sister 0:30 And, so the four of us were pretty much [?] we were fortunate that [?] And, i helped them care for the kids, does the cooking and [?] my father was a common laboror 0:30 [?] he used to cut wood in that area and then bring it in just to sell [?] And I helped him load the wood in the truck and I bring it in...
